| Singaporean
cats have no tails. |
This is Stumpy.
He's one of the condo cats. Other people in the building have different
names for him, but I chose Stumpy for obvious reasons. The other cats
are Stubs and Cookie (she's black & white, like an Oreo), but
they're camera shy. |
For
a long time I wondered whether this lack of tail phenomenon was genetic
or indicative of something more sinister. Some of the cats have longer
stumps, and some of them are all knobby and wonked out. |
But then Cookie
had kittens, and all 3 of them were born without tails. Whew! Made
me much less suspicious when ordering local cuisine. |
This guy was
the cutest kitty of the bunch. My flatmate rescued him from a rainstorm
& we kept him for a few weeks before finding a permanent home
for him. |
We called
him Suki, which basically means crybaby in Australian slang. He meowed
like an old man, all the time. It was actually rather annoying. |
But
he sure was cute. He had a full-length tail, which made him a classy
cat. |
Singapore
has a fantastic birdpark. This is some sort of exotic turkey, I think.
Lucky for him, they don't celebrate Thanksgiving here. |
This
guy is blue. |
I think I was channeling Viki vibes my day at the birdpark. I took
a lot of pictures. |
Those
are like technicolor flamingoes. They're real & totally vivid. |
Had
to do the artsy bird/plant juxtaposition. Oooh. Ahhh. |
They
think they're wild but they're still in the birdpark. |
Cute
ostrich. Right next to the ostriches, they kept a little pen of meerkats.
Being the observant person that I am, I was quick to note that the
meerkats were not birds. And yet they were at the birdpark. They seemed
nonplussed when I questioned them on their presence in this context.
|
Penguins
got their own special airconditioned private room. Lucky penguins.
|
Again,
channeling Viki. These are some fine parrots, eh, V? |
Now
we're at the zoo. If the birdpark was good, the Singapore zoo is great.
The animals all seemed happy and cared for & like they had enough
room. You could get very close to the animals, which was a big treat.
Though I felt sad for the polar bear living on the equator. |
The
baboons were very humanlike & expressive. |
Their
big red butts are irresistably sexy to other baboons. I actually got
to watch some hot baboon sex at the zoo. It looked friendly rather
than romantic, and it didn't even last long enough for me to whip
out my trusty camera. So much for my career as a baboon pornographer.

This
guy's enjoying a moment of post-coital bliss. |
And
here we have the lovely hippopotamus bathing in her pond. |
A
differnet hippo this time, sharing her turf with some deer-like creature.

Rhinos rock
n roll. |
